Challenges

HT Capital experienced problem with integration of Odoo to external Accounting software (POHODA) on regular basis. The main identified reasons were:

• Network limitation of Odoo.sh (no static IP addresses, IP changes dynamically in time)
• Automatic weekly odoo.sh updates caused incompatibility with integration in place
• 3rd party Accounting software updates
• Missing technical documentation & experience of previous Odoo implementation partner
• Customer’s security requirements cannot be achieved by odoo.sh

Solution

We have made deep investigation of existing integration on hosting odoo.sh, which consisted of following steps:

• Process review & discovery
• Source code audit
• Workflows, integrations & security requirements
• Code improvements implemented

Unfortunately after several weeks, there were put in place additional security requirements and due to automatic odoo.sh weekly update the issue with the integration occured again ☹.

Therefore, we proposed to the customer a complete migration of his Odoo database to new dedicated Odoo hosting, which allows the customer to have fully under control Odoo Enterprise version updates and advanced security & network functionalities from hosting perspective.

This means that independent Odoo hosting provider in line with client’s needs, manages the Odoo updates in controlled way and release odoo.sh weekly automatic updates dependences!

Process is as follows:

• Odoo Enterprise version updates deployed on testing environment
• End-to-end process flows tested with the new Odoo version release
• Misbehaviour or bugs are identified and addressed before automatic odoo.sh weekly updates
• Freedom for applying updates on production environment
• New Odoo version release applied based on client’s needs & business priorities

Conclusion

However, the client was skeptical about such a proposed solution, we have agreed on testing the integration before migration of the whole database to new dedicated hosting out of odoo.sh hosting. Additionally, we were able to provide solution that meets client’s advanced security requirements.

Voilá, and integration started working! Today, it has been more than 1.5 years since the client did not experience any issues, and his regular stress when updating the software on the odoo.sh hosting is a thing of the past.
